Principal Purpose, the sustainability consultancy, was established in 2003 in response to the growing need to optimise and demonstrate the contribution of development projects and associated planning applications to the aims and objectives of sustainable development. It was at this time that the delivery of sustainable development was identified as being the “principal purpose” of the UK planning system.

We seek “win-win” solutions, by which robust sustainability solutions are developed within a commercial framework in order to help facilitate planning consent, avoid risk, enhance status, and thus retain competitive edge.

Principal Purpose has the expertise, understanding and approach to help promote the requirements and benefits of sustainable development within client organisations and project teams to help establish and expand skills that facilitate sustainable development and lifestyles.

We have a proven track record of project delivery and planning successes, and can contribute to the process of sustainable development in three main ways:

• by inputting expertise and information about sustainable development at the project level;

• by working with companies to encourage and instill sustainable working practices; and

• through working with groups and individuals to increase their skills and knowledge to put sustainable development into everyday practice.
